CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Multimedia conference publication
Is no local news bad news? Local journalism and its future
On behalf of the Local News and Its Future publication editorial team, we invite all conference presenters to submit their work to our multimedia online journal, which will be published by the Ryerson Journalism Research Centre. Everyone who presented on a panel, as part of a lighting talk or during the Local Storytelling and Innovation Bazaar at the Local News Conference is welcome to make a submission to be considered for inclusion in this publication.

All submissions will be subject to peer review by the editorial committee.

All submissions will be assessed based on the following:
- Relevance to the conference theme
- Contribution to the field and their ability to offer innovative or practical approaches to understanding or addressing the challenges faced by local news ecosystems in Canada and around the world
- Engagement with scholarship, methods and discussion of results
Article submissions should:
- Range in length from 5,000 – 7,000 words inclusive of abstract, notes, and references
- Conform to the APA style guide
- When appropriate, indicate location of supplementary multimedia elements/charts/graphs in document
- Supplementary images or multimedia elements should be uploaded in a separate file
- Supplementary audio and video files not to exceed 90 seconds
- Include a title and an abstract of 150 words
- Include author’s name and institutional affiliation
- Include 4-6 keywords
- Include web links to related information, where appropriate

Video, photo and audio submissions should:
- Ensure images, video and music are licensed for scholarly reproduction
- Be produced to professional standards, especially video and audio elements
- Use multimedia to communicate ideas or research findings/results
- Be uploaded in the following formats
- Video: .mov, .avi, .mp4
- Audio: .mp3, .wav
- Images: .jpg, .png
- Not exceed recommended lengths
- Stand-alone video: 3.5 minutes
- Podcast: 15 minutes
- Include a title and a 250-300-word text (written) introduction to the multimedia piece for inclusion on the website
- Include author’s name and institutional affiliation
- Include 4-6 keywords
- Include web links to related information, where appropriate

- August 15, 2017 – submission of full papers
- December 1, 2017 – peer review process complete/authors notified
- January 15, 2018 – revised manuscripts submitted by authors
- April 30, 2018 – publication in interactive journal
